Planning Your Home Addition in Arizona
Have the urge to expand? If you are feeling a bit crowded or restricted in your home in its current state, you may have started thinking about putting on a home addition. That’s a common move for homeowners in your situation, but it isn’t something you should rush into too quickly. There are some issues you should consider before you get ready to increase your home’s footprint.
First, think about whether an addition is the best move for you at this point. This is a good time to re-evaluate your entire home and how you use it. Perhaps its current layout or configuration doesn’t work well for you, but it may not be an issue of a lack of sufficient square footage. If there are rooms you rarely use or which aren’t set up a convenient way, it may be smarter to just do a home renovation to improve those existing spaces so they meet your needs better.
If you do decide in the end that you are in need of a home addition, consider exactly what type of addition you need. Will this be an office, a family room, an additional bedroom (or bedroom suite), or another type of space? Be sure to think about everything you will need so you can do it all at once. You don’t want to complete one addition only to decide a few months later that you really would have liked additional space for another purpose.
Then of course you will need to determine your budget. Your contractor will be able to give you an estimate once you agree on a plan, but you may be able to come up with an initial ballpark estimate based on the square footage and major elements involved.
It’s important to keep the look and feel of the rest of the home in mind when planning your addition. If you don’t want it to feel like you have entered a completely different world when you go into the new space, you will want to think of ways to blend it in with the rest of the house. Of course, in some cases a drastic difference may be exactly what you are trying to achieve.
