Mel and Janice

Mel and Janice’s Whole Home Remodeling Story

Mel and Janice made a decision recently that it was finally time to remodel their worn, outdated, single story suburban Phoenix home. Built in 1988, the couple purchased the custom-built, four-bedroom, 2.5 bath, to live in with their (then) high-school age son. The family also owns a home in Missouri where they reside approximately three months a year.

“We love our home, but it was just simply getting dated. The first big change we wanted to make was to open up the sunken living room, raise it to be level with all other areas of the home and make it a much more usable space,” said Mel. Continue reading …

The couple discovered Republic West Remodeling after reaching out to a neighbor for referrals. “Our neighbor is a commercial contractor and he highly recommended Republic West Remodeling,” he said.

Mel and Janice initially met with RWR’s Stephen Yeomans, Project Designer, to discuss their remodel plans. They said they were very pleased with Stephen’s design proposal, especially with regards to expanding their half-bath into a full bath and making it privately accessible from the guest bedroom. “Now we have three full bathrooms …it’s a lot nicer for guests.”

Another large-scale project on the 2,400 square foot home included completely remodeling the passé kitchen. Mel said Stephen made “a lot of great suggestions,” helping them select everything from more contemporary lighting to plumbing fixtures and tiling. RWR also worked with the couple to replace the dated flooring throughout the entire house – they decided on an eye-appealing, lighter travertine tile for the majority of the rooms, with fresh, new carpet in each of the four bedrooms. With such a large remodel, the couple presumed that they would have to move out of the house temporarily. However, as part of the project design, Stephen came up with a solution that including building a solid door and allowed Mel and Janice to move into one half of the house while the other half was being remodeled.

During the building phase, a few changes to the initial proposal had to made along the way. For example, the couple initially wanted to replace the home’s lighting throughout. RWR suggested that in order to accomplish this task, the couple should also have the home’s electrical rewired to accommodate the modern lighting fixtures. They also discovered it was easier to replace their HVAC system during the renovation process.

“Even with those unforeseen changes, RWR couldn’t have been any better,” Mel said. “Initially, we received some other bids from a few other contractors, however, many of them went about the design plans haphazardly, without much detail. With Republic West Remodeling, they told us exactly what they were going to do, when they were going to do it, and how much it would cost … and, best of all, they delivered everything they said they would, and more.”

According to Mel, the remodeling project was completed on time, and has had an overall transforming affect on the quality of the couple’s daily home life.

“It’s honestly like we have an entirely new home,” he said. “I can’t say enough about the people who helped us on this project. You hear so many horror stories about remodelers, and with Republic West Remodeling, that couldn’t be further from the truth. They are simply top notch.”
