Garage Organizing Tips in Scottsdale

Did you know that, according to the U.S. Department of Energy, only one-quarter of all homeowners with a two-car garage can not even park one car in their garage? You probably don’t need much help figuring out why – too much junk!

With summer temperatures heating up, it’s a great time to reclaim your garage for its original purpose. In a continued effort to clean up and clear out, here are some garage organization tips for Scottsdale, and other Arizona, area homeowners:

• Reclaim your garage floor. The strategy here is simple: aim to use the space on the garage walls to your advantage. For example, equipment including golf clubs, tennis rackets and skates can all be stored along the walls, while bikes can be hung on hooks from the ceiling. Yard supplies, such as rakes and shovels, can also be easily organized on an interior wall. By using this space wisely and creatively, you can increase your storage space and make all of your items much more easily accessible.
• Cut the clutter. It’s amazing how many “things” we all acquire over the years. The challenge is that finding a place for each thing is not always possible, or necessary for that matter. What is important is to discard the items you no longer want or need. Take time to sort through all of your tools and supplies, and separate those items into piles that you can sell, donate, throw away or recycle. A good rule of thumb: if you haven’t used it in a year, get rid of it.
• Sort and Getting organized is only half of the battle. The real challenge is  actually staying organized. Label boxes and containers to reduce the frustration of rummaging through things to find one specific item. Arrange similar items into categories (i.e., holiday decorations, kids’ stuff, tools, etc.) so you will be able to maintain an efficient system.
